Overview
La Nouvelle Etoile sets the standards in the barging
world for luxury, sophistication, and modern amenities.
With spacious suites, hand-crafted teakwood furnishings,
and extras like Internet access, an on-board hot tub,
and exercise facilities, it's easy to see why La
Nouvelle Etoile is a favorite among seasoned and novice
barge travelers alike.
La Nouvelle Etoile offers
an enormous amount of spacious comfort to her guests by
limiting guests to just 8 where other barges of the same
size might book double the number of guests or more.
Therefore, you'll never feel cramped and you'll love the
personalized service provided by the crew, as
well.
Jan and Diana Meijer, the owners of La
Nouvelle Etoile, work hard to ensure your every need and
wish will be anticipated while on board. Meticulous
attention to detail is evident throughout - from the
custom made dining table set with Wedgwood china and
Christofle silver in the dining area to the selection of
fine linens, and fresh flowers and fruit found in each
suite. The warm furnishings invite you to relax and
enjoy your time inside the vessel, and the comfortable
patio furniture on the deck creates an inviting
atmosphere perfect for enjoying the sun and the
breathtaking passing scenery.

La Nouvelle Etoile is a revelation for all discerning
barging clients. Her magnificent, spacious suites, each
with sumptuous private bathroom with double wash basins,
oversized showers and refined decor are a marvel to
behold.

right on the water's edge - not small portholes in the
ceiling or above eye level, so you can enjoy the sights
even from your stateroom. Each suite also offers
Internet access with flat-screen monitors and satellite
TV, king size beds that can be converted to twins, ample
storage space, and a safety deposit box.
One
suite is fully wheelchair accessible. In addition, La
Nouvelle Etoile offers an elevator from salon level to

Sample Itinerary
Alsace & Lorraine Sunday - After
being met by the driver you will be taken to La Nouvelle
Etoile which will be moored in Nancy for a wonderful
champagne welcome. You will have the afternoon to relax.
The barge will stay in Nancy tonight where you will
enjoy your first of many gourmet meals on
board.
Monday - You will enjoy a leisurely
morning cruise to Einville and then return to Nancy for
a walking tour of the city beginning at the elegant
Place Stanislas. Flanked by handsome Baroque palaces and
enclosed by ornate gold and wrought iron entry gates,
the square is considered one of the grandest in all of
France. The Art Nouveau movement originated in Nancy.
You may visit the Musee de l'Ecole De Nancy to see its
fine collection.
Tuesday - After a morning
cruise past tidy farms and pasturelands you'll be driven
to the privately owned Chateau de Fleville. This
graceful Renaissance residence adjoins a 14th century
castle keep. The interiors are richly furnished with
18th century antiques. You'll then return to the barge
moored in the peaceful village of Schneckenbush for the
night.
Wednesday - Each day traveled on
the canal the barge has been gradually climbing to the
crest of the Vosges Mountains. After navigating two
tunnels carved into the mountaintop, the barge will
encounter the Inclined Plane at Arzviller. This unique
lock allows a barge to glide effortlessly up or down the
mountainside using a system of weights and
balances.
A short drive along the way will take
you to the Christaller of Harz village where fine
crystal is still blown by hand. La Nouvelle Etoile
continues to cruise through the Zorn Valley where the
surrounding hilltops are dotted with ruins of feudal
castles. Tonight's overnight stay will be in
Lutzelbourg.
Thursday - This morning the
barge will wind her way through the heart of Saverne,
past the regal 18th century Bishop's Palace. From
Saverne you'll enjoy an afternoon drive along the Route
du Vin d'Alsace to the old fortified town of Obernai
where you will visit the Market Square and the 14th
century ramparts that surround the city. You'll stop
along the way to taste some of the best Alsatian
wines.
Friday - Today the cruise will
finish in the busy port of Strasbourg. Your afternoon
tour of Strasbourg includes the folk museum and the 11th
century Gothic cathedral, leaving enough time to stroll
around to explore the fine shops. Returning to the barge
late in the afternoon, you will enjoy your last gourmet
dinner on board and a farewell
party.
Saturday - After your last elegant
breakfast you will be driven to either your hotel, train
station or the airport.
