Overview
Come explore southern France aboard luxury barge Alegria
and find joy (as her name suggests) on her decks and
along the historic Canal du Midi. Built as a traditional
Freyssinet barge in Belgium, she was eventually
shortened to her present length which allows her to
navigate the smaller locks of the canal. She has been
exquisitely decorated with a modern flare that is
comfortable and unique.
Alegria is owned and
captained by Olivier Baudry who is extremely
well-assisted by his crew. Climb aboard and enjoy
a holiday of enchantment, adventure, gastronomy, and
relaxation.

Accommodations
Alegria features two large guest rooms that feature king
sized beds and oversized portholes that offer panoramic
views of the canal. Each cabin includes a private
en-suite bathroom that features a semi-circular shower.
Cabins are fitted with king size beds that can be
separated into single (twin) beds upon
request.
Enjoy subtle luxuries such as heated
towel racks, hair dryers, plush bathrobes, and
complimentary toiletries from L'Occitane en Provence.
You'll also appreciate the convenience of a mini-fridge
stocked with cool drinks and a tea and coffee tray with
biscuits. Cabins also feature two doors - one that leads
to the salon and dining area and another that leads to a
staircase that takes you right to the upper deck.

Sample Itinerary
Beziers to Carcassonne Saturday -
You'll be welcomed in the afternoon at the airport or at
the railway station in Beziers and chauffeured to
Alegria. On the way you may enjoy a visit to the city of
Beziers to see the famous locks of Fonserannes. After
you settle down on the barge, you'll enjoy a welcome
drink of a glass of Champagne and be introduced to the
crew. Alegria might even take you for a short
introductory cruise, depending on the navigation
conditions. You'll enjoy your first dinner on board and
spend the night in Poilhes.
Sunday -
Sunday is "Le Jour du Marche" in Capestang: your French
Captain, Olivier, will teach you all the secrets of a
French Public Market where you may even find something
tasty to buy for lunch which will be served along the
beautiful bank of the Canal. The afternoon takes you to
La Croisade where you will cruise underneath the lowest
bridge on the Canal: the famous bridge of Capestang.
Mind your head!
You'll spend the night in a
restful place a stone's throw away from an old 17th
century stone bridge in Le Somail.
Monday
- Should you be interested in archeology, you can visit
an exceptional site today: the Oppidum of Enserune, one
of the largest around the Mediterranean. This takes you
back to pre-Roman times in the South of France, from the
6th century BC. Thereafter, you'll cruise along Le
Sommail, one of the most charming villages along the
Canal. Should you need a book for the week you can buy
one from a unique book shop that has approximately
50,000 second-hand books in stock - in many different
languages! The evening and the night are spent along the
Canal near Roubia.
Tuesday - In the
morning you'll visit Minerve, a fascinating site and a
previously fortified village in a very special rocky
environment. After the afternoon cruise you'll be
offered a dinner "a terre", off the barge. It's the
perfect opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of a French
restaurant! You'll spend the night in the beautiful area
of Homps, a significant harbor on the Canal.
Wednesday - In the morning you'll drive
through the landscape and visit a beautiful town,
Narbonne. Narbonne is full of Roman history and includes
the "Palace of the Archbishop". You will love its
Mediterranean and Gothic style - and the lunch served in
town. After lunch you'll return to the barge for the
afternoon leg, up to Pulcheric, where you'll stay for
the night.
Thursday - In the morning,
enjoy a visit the great city of Carcassonne, the biggest
medieval City in Europe. You will be fascinated by the
size of the walls and the narrow streets inside. You
will be right there in the middle of French history!
There also many shops where you can buy typical
souvenirs to bring back to family and
friends.
After lunch Alegria will embark on the
last leg of the cruise for the week, from Pulcheric to
the area of Trebes. You'll spend the last night there
after the festive "Captain's Farewell Dinner".
Friday - After your breakfast, it is
unfortunately time to conclude this unforgettable
cruise. You will be transferred back to the airport or
railway station in Carcassonne so that you can continue
your adventure.
