Overview
Enjoy a private week cruising on 18th century canals,
through moss-covered locks in a land where time seems to
stand still. Visit a vineyard, step back in time to
explore a historic chateau or basilica, bicycle into the
nearest village for coffee in the square, or just sip
champagne on the deck as unspoiled landscapes float
by.
The classic Elisabeth is traditional in
feeling; but modern amenities such as air conditioning
and central heating, as well as a recent refurbishment
by owners Peter and Sheena Jenner bring it squarely into
the present. Warm accent pieces and an abundance of
plants help to create a true "home away from
home."
Guests can make full use of the spacious
salon with its comfortable seating, library,
well-stocked bar, and stereo system. Many a memorable
meal is served in style in the dining area, while buffet
lunches are offered "al fresco" in the summer. Seating
on the flower-lined deck or in the wheelhouse offers
more choices: curl up with a good book or just watch the
scenery drift by!

Accommodations
Elisabeth's three cozy cabins, each with en-suite baths,
are aptly named for the wine villages of Chablis,
Irancy, and Coulanges. Each of the three identical
cabins can be configured with one large queen bed or two
twin beds.
Cabins are fully air conditioned and
heated. Fresh flowers, chocolates, hair dryers and
elegant toiletries in the bath - these are some of the
little touches that ensure sweet dreams!

Sample Itinerary
Chocolate & Wine On the Canal de
BourgogneEnjoy top-notch chocolate
tastings, dessert-making demos and accompanying wine
tastings, plus visiting abbeys, chateaux and lovely
villages
Saturday - Your
journey starts with an afternoon pick up in Paris after
which you are driven to the Elisabeth moored in the
delightful chateau village of Tanlay. Settle in after a
champagne reception and maybe take a stroll around the
village. Chocolate week begins with tonight's
dessert.
Sunday - This morning the barge
will cruise to Ancy le Franc where you will visit the
chateau, beautifully restored and a real delight to
visit. Back on board a wine tasting of the local
Tonneroise wines is in order.
Monday -
Today's cruise is to Ravierres and here you will depart
for a pleasant drive through the villages to Chablis for
a wine tasting and a visit to the chocolaterie to hear
the history of and taste the chocolate Pillars of
Chablis. Back to the barge via medieval Noyer, one of
the top five prettiest villages of
France.
Tuesday - Today starts with a
leisurely cruise to Montbard. From here you will go to
Eppoisse for a cheese visit and a wine tasting. For
those that are interested a cooking demonstration can
also be arranged today. Back to Elisabeth for dinner and
the second chocolate dessert.
Wednesday -
This morning you will start to notice the climb up the
valley to Veneray les Laumes. The cruising just gets
prettier as the barge moves along. Your visit this
afternoon is to The Abbaye de Fontenay, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. This wonderful abbey is the last complete
Cistercian monastery left in France. Tranquility and
beauty describe it perfectly. Back at Elisabeth the chef
will give a demonstration on the making of tiny
chocolate petit fours.
Thursday - The last
cruise takes the barge to Pouillenay, a climb up and
fabulous views over the countryside. The week is
concluded with a lunch in the village of Flavigny (where
the movie Chocolat was filmed) and a walking tour of the
village. From here you will drive the short distance to
Alesia to see the site of the last great battle between
the Romans and the Gauls. The Roman ruins and
amphitheatre date back to 345bc. Returning to Elisabeth
in time for a rest before Captain's dinner and your last
chocolate feast.
Friday - This morning you
will be driven back to Paris after breakfast.
