River Seine
Late Spring, Summer and Early Fall
Saturday - You will be met at the Hotel Regina in Paris and transferred to Anacoluthe moored in the little town of St Mammes at the
junction of the rivers Seine and Loing. After a champagne welcome aboard, you have time to settle into your cabin and maybe take a
stroll before dinner in town or perhaps in Moret sur Loing, a small medieval town, once home to Alfred Sisley, the great
impressionist painter.
Sunday - During breakfast the barge will cruise to Evry. After lunch you'll take an afternoon excursion to Vaux le Vicomte, a
beautiful castle built by Fouquet, the finance minister of the Louis XIV, and the model for Versailles. There is an exceptionally well
furnished interior and magnificent gardens. Then you'll return to Anacoluthe at Evry and cruise to enter Paris at dinner time. After
dinner on board, you'll enjoy an unforgettable Paris by Night Cruise.
Monday - This morning you'll be enthralled by both a morning coach tour of Paris and the afternoon cruise to Chatou. While in Chatou,
enjoy a visit to La Malmaison Castle and walking tour in town. La Malmaison was the home of the Empress Josephine and on occasions,
Napoléon himself. After her divorce form the Emperor Napoléon, Josephine retired to Malmaison in 1810. The First Counsul and the seat
of the French Government in conjunction with the Tuileries also resided here from 1800 to 1802. This château is situated in one
of the loveliest settings in France.
Tuesday - Today the barge cruises to Mantes, after which you'll visit Giverny, where you'll find the home and gardens of Claude Monet,
the most famous of all the Impressionist painters. Discover the inspiration for his masterpiece, the Water Lilies. You will see the
Japanese Bridge which appears in these paintings. The French government spends in excess of $2 million each year to keep the gardens
exactly as they were before Monet died in 1926. The simplicity of his house is surprising. Return to the boat moored in Vernon in late
afternoon, and then take a stroll to the medieval center of this lovely town.
Wednesday - This morning, Anacoluthe will cruise from Vernon to Les Andelys, home to the famous Château Gaillard. After a
brunch on boat, take an excursion to the charming city of Honfleur including a walking tour of the harbor and picturesque streets.
Honfleur is the site of many early impressionist paintings; it was one of their favorite settings.
Rejoin the boat in Les Andelys with a welcome back tasting of cider and late afternoon cruise to Poses.
Thursday - The barge will take a morning cruise to Rouen, the capital of Normandy. In the afternoon, take a walking tour of the
city, including the cathedral Notre Dame, a gothic masterpiece made famous by Monet. Then it's on to see the Palais de Justice, once
Normandy's parliament with its medieval center and shopping. Return to the boat in late afternoon for the Gala Farewell dinner on board.
Friday - This morning after breakfast you'll return to the Hotel Regina in Paris arriving around lunchtime.
Oise & Seine Rivers
Spring and Late Fall
Saturday - You'll meet at the Hotel Regina and be transferred to Anacoluthe, moored in the town of Compiègne situated on
the river Oise with a population of 47,000. After a champagne welcome aboard, you have time to settle into your cabin and maybe
take a stroll in this charming town before dinner. The barge is moored a short distance from the 16th century town hall and belfry.
Sunday - After breakfast, enjoy a guided walking tour of historic Compiègne. The Hotel de Ville dates from the beginning of the
16th century and the cloisters of the Abbey St Corneille was founded by Charles the Bald in 877. The château is a magnificent example of
French classical architecture with richly decorated apartments in the 18th century, 1st and 2nd empire style.
All the French kings enjoyed this area and came often for hunting. There is an open flower market this morning and there will
be time to explore before returning on board for lunch and a cruise in the afternoon down the river Oise meandering through verdant hills.
After 3 locks, the barge will moor in the lovely village of Pont St Maxence, within walking distance of the 14th century royal
abbey of Moncel.
Monday - This morning after breakfast, Anacoluthe navigates along the river through an ever changing landscape from the
hill-perched village of Saint-Leu, the charming town of L'isle-Adam and its traditional "guinguettes" on the river banks.
The Anacoluthe will moor in Auvers sur Oise which inspired so many impressionist painters.
After lunch, visit the Château Chantilly situated in the heart of 7,800 hectares of land surrounded by the largest
forest in the Paris region and one of the finest sites in France. The château dates from the middle ages
and has an art gallery of 1,000 paintings, 2,500 designs and 2,500 engravings, second only to the Louvre. Then return to Anacoluthe for
a delightful afternoon cruise to Pontoise where she will moor for the night.
Tuesday - This morning, you'll get an early start to visit Giverny and the house and gardens of Claude Monet, the most famous
of the Impressionist painters. Discover the inspiration for his masterpiece "Water Lilies". Then you'll return to the boat in
Conflans St Honorine where the rivers Oise and Seine meet and navigate through Maisons-Lafitte and Bougival, passing scenes that
inspired many painters, and moor in the lovely town of Chatou, opposite the Maison Fournaise of Impressionist fame.
After discovering this lovely place in the Ile des Impressionists, you'll cross the river for a stroll through the center of Rueil,
an ideal place for shopping with some exclusive boutiques. The barge will cruise again in the late afternoon, in order to arrive
into Paris at dusk. There you'll enjoy an illumination cruise through the city of light and moor in Paris for the night.
Wednesday - Today the Anacoluthe will take a cruise south from Paris to Melun in the Seine valley. Then you'll enjoy
a visit to the Château Vaux le Vicomte, built by Fouquet, the finance minister of Louis XIV, and the model for Versailles.
There is an exceptionally well furnished interior and magnificent gardens. You'll return to the boat in Melun.
Thursday - This morning, you'll cruise to St Mammes, a very short distance from Moret sur Loing, a medieval small town and
once home to Alfred Sisley who lived and painted many scenes here. This evening will be the farewell gala dinner.
Friday - After breakfast, return to the Hotel Regina in Paris, arriving before noon.
